1 Description It occurs as a colorless, strongly refractive liquid.
2 Solubility It is slightly soluble in water; miscible with alcohol, with ether and with fixed and volatile oils.

(A) Infrared spectroscopy.
4 Specific Gravity Between 1.041–1.046 at 25°.
5 Refractive Index Between 1.544–1.546 at 20°.
6 Limit of Hydrocyanic Acid Upon the addition of a slight excess of hydrochloric acid, no greenish-blue color or blue precipitate is produced within 15 min.
7 Limit of Nitrobenzene No purplish color is produced.
8 Chlorinated Compounds Not even a transient green color is imparted to the flame.
9 Limit of Ethylbenzene, Cyclohexylmethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, and Benzoic Acid
